To Be Or Not To Be

Two cosmetologists sit contently enjoying the peaceful surroundings of a lunch café engaging in light professional banter.
“So Angela, what’s your schedule looking like for tomorrow?” Kim asked as she sipped her cup of coffee.
“Well I have a few perms, then one lady is coming in for a natural twist set and I have quite a few color and cut services tomorrow but other than that just my regulars”.  Angela took a long sip from her cup of iced tea and exhaled.  Kim sucked her teeth in disgust.
“I hate doing perms.  Those things drive me crazy, thank goodness I only do weaves” Kim said shaking her head.
“Well it keeps me busy.  I like to keep each day spontaneous.  It makes everything so much more interesting.  Besides what kind of hair stylist would I be if I limited myself to only a few things?  Plus I like to maximize my profits.” Angela said.
“Yeah well I make a whole lot more doing weaves than a perm or a haircut or something” Kim said turning her nose at the idea of doing a chemical service.
“Well what do you have scheduled for tomorrow?” Angela asked.
“Well, I don’t have anything scheduled so far but who knows” Kim replied.  Angela silently rose in eyebrow as she had successfully proved her point.
The most successful stylist isn’t necessarily the one who can master a high priced service, but the one who is versatile and can do virtually any service.  Though it is good to have and find your nitch it is also highly beneficial broaden your spectrum, because the greatest success is never having to turn down a service because you don’t do it.
The only thing constant about style in this day and age is change itself.  So the demand for versatility and creativity in any stylist is as high as it’s ever been.  So to all the stylists in the industry whether you are and independent contractor renting space at a local shop, a master stylist at a major company, a brand new stylist just beginning or a seasoned professional in your prime, keep and open mind, keep it versatile and let only the sky itself be your limit!
Always Sincere,
