This edition of The Hair Network's Glamourlace News explains five simple steps to apply a lace front wig and offers a few tips from lace front vets.
Step 1 Prepare Your Hair
Wash hair and create a flat surface by braiding hair in small cornrows to the back, or wrapping hair in a beehive. Wearing a wig cap is optional.
Step 2 - Prepare Your Face
Wash face and neck and swab with alcohol to remove excess cleanser residue and oils Position lace wig on head. Use eyebrow pencil to lightly trace the hairline of the wig onto your forehead. Apply scalp protector to area to be bonded. Let dry.
Step 3 - Prepare Lace Wig
Pull hair on the lace wig back into a large hair clip, or loose ponytail. Clip baby hair back with small bobby pins, or clips. Cut lace back to hairline using small sharp scissors, or a razor.
Step 4 - Apply Adhesive
Using a Q-Tip, apply layers of adhesive around perimeter of hairline. Allow adhesive to semi-dry to dry between applications. Adhesive will appear clear, or almost clear when dry. Once last layer is semi-dry, or tacky to the touch, the adhesive is ready to bond wig to head.
Step 5 - Bond Lace Wig
Position lace wig on head with hairline rolled back. Position ear tabs in front of ears. Then, starting at the middle point of forehead, bond wig to head by pressing down on one side, then the othrer. Bond front hairline, then nape. Use back end of comb to press harder further securing lace front wig onto hairline. Allow time for glue to completely cure before styling.
These are the five simple steps to apply a lace wig. The process is tricky. However with experience, you will learn where to place the wig on your head for the most natural look, how much glue to use, how long to wait between layers of glue and how to apply glue to the nape of your neck. Each person develops their own "tricks" to simplify the process. However, most refine the process to 15 minutes or less. You can achieve this too. For the most secure and longer-lasting bond, allow glue to completely dry, or cure before styling.
